I love to photograph the whole family unit when a newborn comes. Sometimes, an older sibling won’t comply and also has terrible separation anxiety after a sibling is born. We don’t want to make this worse. If you think this is likely with your child, always bring a grandparent/aunt who can take the older child away so that both parents can enjoy having images taken with the newborn. It is difficult for a parent to do that if they can’t leave their toddler for a moment. In this instance, they should leave for the shoot’s sake. We can always try at the end when they return, but at least we can get all those important shots done before they return. I can always give Grannie/Aunty a list of places to take a toddler for a few hours as we have a play centre, McDonald’s, etc., nearby.
