Newborn Photography Session | Styling Your Photo Shoot

The evening before your photoshoot I prepare my studio for your arrival. Even though this can take me a few hours I really enjoy this process as I create a personalised plan for how your photo session will look and unfold the next day. Decisions are made to create a cohesive look and to also ensure that baby will be able to stay asleep during the shoot.

Parents have a huge say in how a session will look. I ask that you to consider what colours you like, and tell me what newborn images or props you have seen online that you prefer, so it will be individual to you. My job is to create from that a variety of images that will work well together in an album or on your wall; so everything involved from clothes, flooring, backdrop and props have been carefully selected.

COLOURS POPS & NEUTRALS

Think about colour, what you like, what suits your baby and your home style as these images will be on your wall. Would you like 100% neutral shades or a neutral base with a colour pop? Sometimes the season your baby was born in will influence your decision, or in the case of baby Violet, her name was an inspiration.
Baby Tommy – Cream/Red and also Baby Violet – Beige/Purples

Once we select a colour pop we look at the best options for the neutral base. Then I add some cute props to go with it, these props will usually be similar in shade to the floor selection. Buckets, bowls and baby beds will be added to give a session some interest. Flokati rugs and also beanbag fabrics, hats, blankets and headbands made with real flowers or silk.

Here are some of my 100% neutrals for you.  Neutral are cream, grey, browns, beige, black and olive.
Baby Elliott – Cream/Grey

Here are some of my neutrals with a non-neutral colour pop.
Baby Fleur – Grey/Turquoise

BACKDROPS

My flooring and backdrops are a made of real wooden panels. I have the light grey/cream side and the dark wood side, both styles are beautiful and can be used to contrast or complement the colours you have already selected. Here you can see the same bucket photographed on the different floors.

I also use paper backdrops for parent shots and these can be cream, grey or skin tone. Depending on your preference for the overall look, one of these will be selected to go with your session. I will make suggestions for clothes that will work with the selected paper backdrop of the shoot.

Siblings clothes will also need to go with the colour choices made for the session.
Baby Ossie – Beige/Emerald and also Baby Eden – Olive/Raspberry Pink.

It’s a lot of fun styling a newborn session and I will ensure that you have plenty of gorgeous options. I am always happy to give advice and show you examples prior to your session. I hope this helps and I look forward to meeting you and your baby.
