My three year old D’Arcy has been infatuated with his little toy bug who he aptly named Buggi! I know he loves this battery operated bug that scoots across the floor and makes him roar with laughter, but I freely admit that the toy bug freaked me out the first time I saw it.
I first came to see these toy bugs when I was in McDonalds one afternoon with my three boys. My eldest son (Leo 6) was one moment chuckling away to himself and then suddenly he disappeared under our table. All I could see was what I though looked like a large brown cockroach scooting under there frantically and my son trying to catch it with his bare hands. Instantly my heart was racing and I tried to move the children away pleading “please don’t touch it!”
I was completely embarrassed when my son passed the toy bug onto the child on the neighbouring bench and they both had a giggle. I sat back down and slowly drank my coffee, cheeks flushed.
I’d been had.
Of course it was only days before we had our very own bug pet collection including the scary realistic-coloured one. D’Arcy really fell for his and carries it around with him in his pocket. It was after many sweet conversations about how great Buggi can run on the floor and how Buggi is so nice because he is purple and pink that I decided to pick up my camera and document his love for the bug.
Kiss!… Aww, he is my love bug.
