Alternative Cake Smash Birthday Photoshoot - Healthier Zero Waste!
Cake smashes are very fashionable photoshoots. They consist of a large cake, a set of usually busy fake backgrounds with balloons and plastic flowers, and somewhere amongst all of that is a child wearing a tutu and hat with “one” on it. The children are poised, covering themselves with cakes of various colours. The problem with fashion is that it constantly changes, and I firmly believe these cheesy images will be deemed a past thing in a few years and no longer in vogue!

As a parent, you may have noticed the limited options when it comes to celebrating your child's first birthday. That's why I've created a unique and alternative photoshoot experience, perfect for those who want to avoid the traditional cake smash.

Let's celebrate the incredible milestone of your child's first year. I've designed a session that not only captures this special moment but also promotes a healthier and less wasteful approach.

I start my sessions with a clean baby. Lovely smiles and focus on eyelashes, chubby hands, feet, tiny teeth, gummy smiles, dimpled skin, crazy hair, and those baby rolls. Any new skills or favourite teddy are showcased and photographed with proud parents, and individual portraits of their love for each parent are taken separately.

I have a wooden toy cupcake and a birthday cake with wooden candles. I have a few vintage and classic-style props, including a neutral-shade hat for your baby, but you can also bring your own. Afterwards, we can end the shoot by having fun eating fruit and capturing the facial expressions of little ones eating melons, lemons (fun expressions), limes, strawberries, raspberries, bananas, and apples that are natural and fun to eat. You can also bring your cupcake for them now, as all the clean images are done!

Make a record of this impressive milestone, and I promise you will cherish these adorable portraits of your little one. We can nod to the birthday with a cupcake, pancake or muffin and wear a birthday hat and a simple romper to show those solid legs and dimpled skin. Adorable!

Where and When

The photoshoots take place in my home studio, about 17 minutes west of Cardiff and easy to get to. Sessions are midweek, starting at 9.45 am until 2 pm. I encourage parents and siblings to be photographed with the baby.

When To Book

First-birthday babies are between 11 and 12 months old and happy to sit safely unaided. Booking ahead will ensure that I am available for you. Once we have spoken and decided upon a date for your session, please send me a non-refundable retainer to secure your appointment dates.
